Bourgueil

Located on the right-hand side of the river Loire, the Bourgueil area extends over seven districts. Vine growing probably started during the Roman occupation. But the vineyard really developped thanks to the Monks of the Bourgueil Abbey, settled in 990.

Two-thirds of the Bourgueil vineyards are planted on the limestone slope ("tuffeau" is the name of the local limestone); the rest is on sandy and gravelled terraces.

Facing south, the vineyards are well exposed to sunlight and can benefit from oceanic effects coming from the Loire valley.

Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil

vignes

The Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil area is situated west of the Bourgueil appellation.

It has a surface area of around 1100 ha. The vineyards are widely open to the Loire valley and the river Vienne; their confluence has exceptional dimensions that let oceanic effect come in easily.

Most of the Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil area lies on sandy and gravelled terraces (the former bed of the river Loire).

Crémant de Loire

The production area of the Crémant de Loire is far vaster; it extends over three appellations: Anjou, Saumur and Touraine.

Drastic rules and a strict schedule of conditions contribute to the well-known quality of Crémant de Loire wines.

Les Geslets

After several training periods in the area of Bordeaux (Fronsac, Pomerol and La Lande de Pomerol) as well as in Burgundy (Meursault), I start running the family domain in 1987, following several generations of wine growers. Sylvie joins me on the domain in 2003.

Located in the district of Bourgueil, the Domaine des Geslets has a privileged situation. The Cabernet Franc can express its delicacy thanks to varied soils.

The domain consists of 20 ha (13 in the Bourgueil appellation, 7 in the Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil appellation), from which we produce wines with respect for the best terroirs.

Since 2013 the Domaine des Geslets is certified Organic Agriculture (Ecocert certification)
